Sometimes people understand their difficulties very well, yet their body and nervous system continue to react as if there is threat, pressure, or danger
This can happen when traumatic adaptations have become “wired in” as patterns of:
chronic hyperarousal (on-edge, anxious, scanning, tense)
shutdown/collapse (flat, exhausted, numb, overwhelmed)
dissociation (feeling disconnected, unreal, spaced out)
sleep disruption, chronic stress, and anxiety patterns
When the nervous system is stuck in survival mode, quality of life often becomes secondary — not because you’re failing, but because your system is prioritising safety.
